# OneGoodArea

> The intelligence layer for place. OneGoodArea is place intelligence infrastructure for property and location products: it turns any postcode, place or official code in Great Britain into sourced signals, explained scores, portfolio monitoring, and natural-language answers, delivered over a REST API and as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so AI agents can query it directly.

OneGoodArea scores and explains any area in Great Britain. Enter a postcode, choose an intent, and get a versioned 0-100 score with a per-category breakdown and a confidence value. Scoring is deterministic: values are computed from public data by fixed formulas with no AI in the scoring path, and every response is stamped with the engine version and the sources behind it, so every figure can be traced to its source, its period and the method that produced it.

The engine scores seven signal categories for every intent: safety and crime, deprivation, property, schools, amenities, transport, and environment. Four decision presets (moving, business, investing, research) change only how those categories are weighted. Current engine (methodology) version: 1.12.6.

Every place in Great Britain has a permanent OneGoodArea place id: 52,025 places from neighbourhoods to nations, with 43,064 neighbourhoods. Live and retired postcodes (906,487 retired ones), current and earlier census codes and place ids all resolve to the same place, and boundary changes are recorded as successions. 65 signals are stored, about 6 million observations in all. Area reads are available at neighbourhood, neighbourhood-group or district grain, and up to 1,000 records can be mapped in one call or 20,000 as a job.

OneGoodArea is four composable products over one engine:
- Signals: sourced area data across the seven categories, each value carrying its source, observed period and confidence.
- Scores: a single 0-100 score per intent, with per-category breakdown, reasoning and confidence.
- Monitor: watch a portfolio of places and get a signed webhook when the underlying data moves materially, with the cause: the area moved, or the method did.
- Intelligence: natural-language questions, similar places, outliers and forecasts over the same data.
